Beijing police help twins enter world
(China Daily) Updated:2005-03-29 15:57

Police cleared the way for a taxi to get a pregnant woman to the hospital on time.

The woman and her husband had hired a taxi for a 90-minute drive to the hospital.

Sensing something was wrong, the driver took the emergency lane on the expressway and called the police. Officers soon arrived and cleared the way. It took them 46 minutes to cover the distance of 41 kilometres to downtown Beijing.

Doctors said if the woman had arrived 10 minutes later, her twins - delivered in a complicated birth - may have lost their lives, the Beijing Times reports.
