The Guangzhou municipal communications committee and local revenue said Tuesday that taxi drivers who failed to provide passengers with a printed receipt could face fines of up to 10,000 yuan (US$1,219), the Information Times reported.

　　A printed receipt contains details of a complaints hotline, the taxi license number, the distance traveled and the cost of the journey.

　　The committee said passengers could complain if taxi drivers refused to provide receipts.

　　A spokesman for the communications committee said a printed receipt would be much more helpful than an invoice in dealing with complaints.

　　He said passengers who kept the printed receipt could easily find the taxi if they left their belongings in the car.

　　However, some passengers did not want the receipts.

　　"It is not convenient to claim taxi expense back from my employer by using printed receipts," said one passenger. He said the receipt had too many details and his employer could easily check his journey.

　　The newspaper said that some passengers bought invoices to avoid using printed receipts to claim expenses from their employers.

　　A taxi driver working for a transport company said he collected meters long printouts of receipts every day, as few passengers wanted them.
