Residents who live near the Mural Bar & Restaurant, angered at the loud music that comes from the bar at night, vented their frustration by removing a security gate that protected the bar during its closed hours.

　　Furious residents, who had several times approached the owner of the bar, located at Hengshan Lu and Yongjia Lu, resorted to removing the gate after their negotiations failed to secure relief from the noise, the Oriental Morning Post reported.

　　Jiang, director of the residential owner committee of the building where the bar is located, said the gate to the bar occupied the fire-fighting passage to the underground, part of the public area.

　　"As owners of the building, removing the gate was agreed upon by members of the committee," Jiang said. According to regulations, the committee has the right to undertake changes in public areas if agreement is reached.

　　Mo, a resident living in room 501, said it wasn't so much that they disliked the gate, but more a matter of the inconvenience the bar caused residents.

　　"Though there are seven floors between my apartment and the bar, the music still reaches me through the walls, which are partly built out of hollow bricks," said Shen, who lives in room 803.

　　The bar manager surnamed Li expressed his dissatisfaction about the removal of the gate. He said the bar had been approved by the industrial and commercial department. "We rent the place, of course we rent the gate, how could they remove it?"

　　The manager said inspections showed the noise produced by the bar was within the level set by the environmental protection department.
