Noble House
BY F. Wang (Chinadaily) Updated:2004-07-06 10:25

Pricey and decadent, Noble House is sure to impress everything but your tastebuds

Located next to the Dongchang Subway stop, Noble House is housed in a newly built manor that tries to look antique. The decadent Western atmosphere makes its way into the dining room.

We started with a cold dish, which arrived promptly. The shrimp and mango salad (Y32) consisted of fresh but sour chunks of mango covered with shrimp and a thick blanket of mayonnaise.

Our first hot dish arrived minutes later, crab leg with asparagus. Recommended repeatedly by the waitress as a signature dish, the plate of crab leg meat was excessively priced at Y180, and although it arrived shell-less as advertised, it was also tasteless, with the asparagus masking the flavor of the crab. The roasted sea bass (Y76) was presented nicely, and the flavor was delicately infused into the meat. The fried crabmeat dumplings (Y15 each), however, had too much dough and not enough filling. Our unimpressive dinner for two came to Y400, without drinks except for the tea (Y10 per cup, it turns out). With such high prices and at least a dozen banquet rooms on the premises, Noble House seems to be trying to position itself as a place to go to impress business clients.
